Walter Padovani, Milan, 2016
Taking his cue from the collecting history of this secrétaire with its astonishing collection of wax figures, Alvar González-Palacios highlights some of the lesser-known aspects of the career and personality of Caspar Bernhard Hardy (Cologne, 1726 – 1819), and discusses a previously unpublished marble portrait of Goethe, Hardy’s only signed and dated work known to date.
The book is richly illustrated with photographs that allow the reader to explore this unique microcosm of wax sculptures in the most minute detail. The photographs were taken by Arrigo Coppitz.
The secrétaire will be shown by Kunstkammer Georg Laue on stand 204 at the TEFAF exhibition in Maastricht from 11 to 20 March 2016.
